10 THE PHANTAGRAPH March [centered] THE STORY OF THE STORY "I was walking along a lonely road one night looking at the stars and wondering what would happen if they all amalgamated and became one big star. I tried to figure out how much light it xx would give and how it would affect humanity. The idea grew and became so terrific that I talked it over with the editor of THE PHANTAGRAPH. He said it stank so that is how I came to write "Story" instead." - DONALD A. WODLHEIM "While chatting with the editor of the FUTURE FICTION one day, I suggested the idea of "Rhapsody Legion." He said he'd read anything for a ready fee so I wrote it. He rejected it. So did everybody else. So that's why you're reading it in THE PHANTAGRAPH." - Opus. B. Major. "I was talking with Frederik Pohl one after-noon about space and things. We were talking over a terrific plot I had outlined to him that would have made science-fiction history. Just then one of those glamor girls walked by that they use for models for Horror Stories covers. She was in her working clothes! I followed her. That is why you did not read anything be me in this issue of THE PHANTAGRAPH." - GABRIEL BARCLAY [line break] PHANTAGRAPH by DAW:- Having felt the urge to put out an issue in the quaint "vignetted" style used by many stf mags, we have done so. The next issue of TP will be "transitional" and we hope to present a batch of Pohl's "Mind of Man" material. The May issue will be our Anniversary Number and we are planning on something big... Recommended: The June issue of STIRRING SCIENCE STORIES. Best illustarted [sic] pro magazine on the newsstands! And that is a beast! [line break]
