each of his stories. His last story in "ASTROUNDING"was fine and his flower detective should blossom into one of science fictions most likeable characters. I like the gentle, unobtrusive way he slips a girl and a little love interest into most of his tales. It makes them so much more human and readable than most of the cold mathematical type (?) of stories appearing int the majority of the magazines. I think CAMPBELL is overlooking a trick and passing up a good bet by not using Long more often in"ASTOUNDING" and"UNKNOWN". To say nothing of the other magazine editors. -----Not so long ago I received a topsy-turvy bullentin from CHARLIE HORNIS, who seems to have gone wrong in many in Hollywood. The bulletin contained a lot of silly sob stuff a young gal who had developed an inferiority complex (or something) and consiously or unconsiously was engaged in that delightful pastime of collecting adolescent male scalps. The article which plaintive appeal for help in solving the gal's complex-problem. I don't go in for much of this BEATRICE FAIRFAX, DOROTHY DIX, Advice to-the-Lovelorn stuff, CHARLIES, but I would suggest a darned good spanking. If the little brat is under sixteen you take the job, if the dimpled darling is over sixteen, wrap her up in cellophane and send her to me express, collect, insured----- I'll take over. It would be a pleasure.
