1 [1943?] Jan. 31. Just got back Sun. night from organizing a town. Man, was it interesting! I've been looking forward to it for a long time. We went in 4 half-tracks, 4 jeeps, 2 motor cycles, and 3 6x6 trucks,-76 of us in all. We drove for about 200 miles and arrived at this town around 9 o'clock Sat. night. It was a town of about 150,000, located somewhere in Ala., we're not permitted to tell where. We rolled down the main street, hell-bent for election, making as much noise as we could. The motors were all set to back-fire and we pitched fire-crackers & yelled bloody murder. Two of the shows were just letting out and you should have seen the melee. We, of course, had no insignia of any kind on us or our vehicles, so they had no way of knowing who or what we were. Three other guys & I were detailed to take over one of the
