[Letterhead] July 4, 1943 2100 Dear Mom,- Received your letter of June 25 a few days ago, and that cute card today. It was a very applicable card, I think. Was darn glad to hear from you, Mom, as always. Didn't think I'd ever get a chance to reply to you, however. Things are just hummin' all the time. Sometimes, I wonder how I find the time to breathe. Those riots were terrible. It's really a blot on Detroit. Too bad things like that have to happen. We did read about it in all the papers down here. The South really played it up, with editorials and everything. Their editorials and articles were
