JANUARY 3 1942. Throat very sore. Baked bread, roasted a Jersey giant. Finished Hilda's tablecloth. We took Hilda to 5 PM train for Washington, called at [Rahmlow's?] (Mrs. [Rahmlow?] died very suddenly). Wayne W. here at 10 P.M. 1943. Hans, Uncle Chris, Sig, K + I drove home from Maquoketa in 4 hrs. Icy first 20 miles, then snowy. Honey baked ham for 3:30 dinner. Napped while others played [game?]. We took Sig to dorm. tried to meet Z but she came at 3 A.M. 55 1944. Very thick fog. Sent for birthday gift seeds Wrote Olga + birthday card to Lois Jean. Frank rode to Morey's with Ralph Davis as we are short of gas. Baked bread and took out the Christmas tree. Darlene brought up the news which I typed. [Skrev?]. Hans [el?] dansk Brev. Frank got his selective service papers. 21° 43° 1945. Ironed some, slept 1 1/2 hours in A.M. to make up for some last. Wrote about Viking Club for Bill [Evjve?], translated it into dansk for Dannevirke, then drove to Fru Hanson's with Hans. Stopped at Hilda's but she was out here. 24° 41° 1946. Hans began working for FAO, in Tempo T bldg, 14th + Constitution. I ironed, mailed K's notebook she forgot, to her, + Sig's knitted soakers to Velma for baby. Wrote 7, worked on acct. books In eve we drove to Fru Hanson's, for a danish Besög. Her son Earl had been back from Liberia.
