JANUARY 4 1942. -20 50 at S.S. upstairs. I was Supt. Mrs. Cornwell told missionary story. K took Hans to 10 a.m train to Washington. Frank home from Iowa at 6. Dale Kelley here. Sneezed all eve. 1943. Packed Hans' suitcase, pressed his suit, wrote August's, roasted chicken Amanda gave Hans, baked cookies + bread. Hans + I took Uncle Chris to 3 o'clock bus in Middleton, then Hans went with Wayne W. to Waterloo. Nice day. 1944. Up before 6 to fire, tho it is mild cloudy day. Washed, wrote Rural Comments. Went to Woman's Club, buying last 3 gal. gas till Jan.21. We voted to Federate + stay Federated! Played dominoes with Les + Leroy M Redd in "Burned Road" 1945. Ironed-7 shirts, etc. Tried to get gas. No luck. tho waited in line of dozen cars-Hans mother + I walked to Abingdon recreation room + made surgical dressings 3 1/2 hrs. got mud on our heels. 30° 45° 1946. Cleaned and worked on 1945 accounts, finishing up. Wrote more thank you letters. Sig got her job back in Wis. Gen. Hosp. I mailed her her box of sheets, etc. Wrote "My Week" while Hans wrote for Danish papers.
