JANUARY 23 1942. Another mild sunny day. Did some darning and put bell on Red Cross skirt. Wrote Marion Stark and Mabel Russell. 1943. Baked layer cake and honey oatmeal cookies. Juanita cleaned. Frank came from a month at Iowa, and Hans from Washington on 7:35 P.M train. Frank and I met him. 1944. Warm and sunny day. Home all day to recover from flu. Made apple crisp, cooked chicken and dumplings. Played Anagrams. Hans phoned from Chicago on his way to Maquoketa. 1945. We ironed. Kathryn came out from Hilda's at noon for lunch- then she and Perry Gribble "conferred" about making chlorophyll. To Alex. She came from Madison yesterday. All of us at Hilda's for 8 o'clock dinner (5 Skotts). Hilda and grandma making Hans knitted Khaki scarf - We took Hans' mother to train for Helene's. 14° 32° 1946. Ironed, basted up a girl's dress, cut some backless sunsuits. Got date with Dr. McCaleb and took X ray treatment at 3:30. Walked up from Const. Ave. Mailed Signe's books and uniform. We finished reading Julegran. Hans started working for UNRRA.
