JANUARY 25 1942. We all went to church - Z, K, F and I. 81 at S.S. Had bad neuritic twinge so K got dinner, etc. I napped and read most of "Lamb in His Bosom" by Charlotte Miller. Dan H here in eve. 1943 Up at 6 - breakfast for K, who went on request to Merrimac, and Hans who met Amy in Dubuque- They work at Richland Center this week. Washed 10 shirts for Hans. Hdkfs froze outside. Prepared supper for 7 and waited till 7:30 but Hans and Amy didn't come. 50° 1944. Warmest Jan. 25 in record. Jay W. here in A.M. and for lunch. I did big washing and hung it outside. Hans and I went to Madison, got Sig gloves and sent her cookies and pajamas. K. came home with us. We read some dansk. Wrote Sig 12° 23° 1945. Coldest we've had yet. Baked gingerbread. Went on bus to ATC Canteen. Missed seeing German P.O.Ws flown in. Served a man milk who "hadn't seen any for 2 1/2 years". Perry here in eve. 1946 Hans home for lunch. Washed, tho hard to get Dr. Lataue's ZnO out of some of my things. Worked on Signe's rug and composed 1st sheet of Florida pages in our new "Americana" scrapbook. To 1706 New Hampshire Ave for tea reception and stayed to hear Mrs. Ch'en, Mrs. Nice and Miss [blank] on round table for needs of China, and good, and UNRRA set up.
