JANUARY 27 1942. Baked 2 batches date cookies, got Mrs. Pick at 12:30 and went to church (not very warm). Mrs. H Lemeke and we served about 60 - chicken salad cornucopias, date cookies, pickles, coffee. Tired. 1943. Ironed 9 shirts, sent 1 to Hans at Richland Center and Dora's Christmas stationery. Took nap. Mended 3 or 4 shirts. Showed house to Mr. Petell. Cleaned out cedar chest, sorted out contents. 1944 Rained all night and nearly all day, breaking drouth. Mrs. Buss brought us a rabbit, Roasted it for supper - We read dansk, did some mending. Finished writing Pan American Pageant. 19° 36° 1945. Hans went to work on day after a shot; for first time - I drove to market - About 50 in line ahead of me - but I got a chicken - a small one - Cold standing in line an hr. Baked rolls - K scrubbed my stove and refrig. My hand in better - Baked cookies. 22° 29° 1946 Several inches snow overnight. Sunny I drove to church, then we went to Nate Burhaus' for dinner. Met daughters Barbara and twins Priscilla and Cynthia. Drove to Wash. Hans gave his pictures on new machine in All Soul's at 5:30. Mrs. Hanson, Mrs. Cotton, the Kirks, Mary Moeller, J. Shambaugh there. Home about 9.
