January 28 1942. Did the washing. Cloudy all week. Baked choc. chip cookies, and choc. birthday cake for Signe. then too tired to do more. Walked to Robert's in eve, where 12 4H'ers practiced song. 1943 Didn't sleep well. Baked 2 chocolate cakes to get any for Signe's birthday. More mending. Gave her the work on her suit and uniforms. 1944. Mrs. Zeigler and I got word around for Mrs. Wermuth's delayed birthday party. I took Washington hat pad for 1st prize - Mrs. Z got it. I rated third - Had it at Henkel's. Jay W. and Zillie came in eve. Jay stayed over night. Frank got A1 Classification. 29° 41° 1945 Baked pumpkin pies. K, Hans, and I drove to church. Dr. Barnett here for dinner. We gave her dansk books and some papers. Hilda came for supper, then Ellen and "Lucky" Bronder came and we played 500 for about 4 hrs. 3 games Hans and I beat Hilda and Lucky 2 out of 3. Served cocoa, cookies, candy, orange pop- 12° 41° 1946. Drove up to 1706 New Hampshire with Hans to audit, lesson in Chinese 9-11. Home on bus. To farewell dinner for Lucille Zoller and Jo Torpy at George Mason hotel. My place card was "Mrs. China Bound". Hozel Christiansen of Minn. here for supper. I baked choc. chip cookies.
