FEBRUARY 9 1942. Baked butterhorn rolls- To birthday party for Mrs. Schwenn in P.M. Snowed all P.M. I got second prize - for once. 2 crocheted holders Mrs. Whalen made. score 3710. 1943. Thru washing before 11. Did 2 rugs inc. Sig's. Mrs. Cornwell's parents looked over house and asked for 1st chance on it. Ivan Bell got our piano. To Mrs. Schwenn's birthday party in P.M. Gave her nut chopper. My score only 2. Icy. Wrote 7 letter. 1944 Slept at Lyle Miller's. Hans and I called on Eleanor . I spent 2 hours at Pauline's. Dinner at church with group all of whom I remembered. Called on Mrs. Reeder. Sophia took us in to Dubuque. Pauline and I home on 10:30 bus. Mr. George brought [illegible]. 1945. Kathryn helped Hans pack his fat "B" bag. It and his briefcase weighed 61#. Mrs. Manning called Hans to phone at 2:10 P.M. that he was to be at airport at 4:30. We drove there and saw him off to London, via Bermuda, Azores, and Scotland, "Sarge" and Hilda here for supper. Began putting Han's clothes away. 1946. Rainy again! Just when I wanted to take airport pictures! Mrs. Priest and I ran canteen 7:30 to 12, using Silexes for making coffee. The 2 flights who wanted coffee had to get it at mess hall. Dr. C. P. Hu here for chicken dinner. He loved my filled cookies. Mrs. Hu had to stay with the "first boy" and Dr. Morgan couldn't find our apt.
