MARCH 9 1942. Painted cellar stairs second coat, baked cream cake and pumpkin custard, pressed suit for Hans, packed his suitcase, took him to the 3:15 bus—to Columbus, Ohio. Elynor finished making tickets in eve here. 1943. Elsie went in with K, to 7 AM train to Little Rock, Ark. I ironed, began hemming new drapes. Began reading "Westward the Sun". Snowed nearly all day and all night. 1944. Hans to [Fairport?] Ill and Waterloo Ia. K & I emptied out organ & I got part of it sorted out! Mrs. Zeigler here, bought some fruit jars; Mrs. Shaffer bought a cotton mattress — & Mrs. Rasein my old kitchen cabinet. I washed bathrobe etc. in snow water, baked bread and prune kolaches. 1945. Practiced — without scripts —at Mrs. Rathbone Smith's. Got our typewriter's a from 935 at P.O. for Hans to sign for his declaration of estimated income for 1945. Cut out dress for Janice Siders from old rayon of mine, & smocked it in red. 1946. Up at 5:20 after good sleep. MotorCorps called for me early; we were at canteen before 7 to get coffee made for Gen George (head of A.T.C) before 8. Not so busy along in AM. Nap, then to Alex to mail Frank a Kodacolor film, order tire from MW & Co, buy plastic pins, & thread for Denmark.
