MARCH 14 1942. Baked cake, waxed bathroom. Z, Sig & I went to Madison 11-3. Sig & I got new coats for next winter, goods for her suit & new dining room curtains. She stayed in and Kathryn came out. 1943. Hans & I went to church. New chancel under way. Napped & read Danish. We met Z at 10:30 train. 1944. Rainy. Martha Forman phoned from Madison. Hans & I packed 7 boxes canned goods to take, also empty jars to store. Mrs. Davis helped me in P.M. She cleaned buffet, mixed cookies etc. Hans to see Kolb, brought out locker goods - turned locker over to Davis. Ralph here in eve. I cleaned out bedding closet, recipe stack, etc. 1945 To Alex. to be prompter in our Red Cross play at Murphy auditorium for their employees, given at 8:45 A.M! Very responsive audience. Did ironing. Shopping. Took $65 to Mrs. Counsillor but didn't stay for lunch. Got $10 in eve. Got my [Va?] driver's license. 1946. Washed and hung outdoors. Did the ironing, sewed my name-tapes on several slips, sweaters. Did my marketing at Mt. Vernon Ave. Safeway. Put black reenforcements on my old memory book. Did a Wisconsin page for "Americana" scrapbook. Washed hair—dried it outdoors!
