MARCH 21 1942. Windy. Baked cookies + apple crisp. Met Kathryn in Middleton. Pasted in my Rural Comments scrapbook all eve. 1943 50+ at SS again. (Ph. Br. S.S. has more than half that). K + Z + I to church - Chancel partly floored. We sent Olga roses. I made apricot upside down cake - K made 2 batches cookies, to take in. 1944. Breakfast at Al's. Saw Harry Rex, Left at 8:30. Drove 365 mi. across Ind. + Ohio. Least snow of trip in Ind. Stayed in tourist home in Canton, Ohio, where of course a big portrait of McKinley over Mantel. Our loaded car locked in garage. # 61° 70° 1945. Baked whole wheat cookies. Took 22 in to Red Cross luncheon. Hazel Morton (who was as ISC picnic last summer) played accordion. Alex. is over top of Red Cross quota. Started making rayon blouse for Hilda. 66° 1946 We went in to Blackstone Hotel and took "Historic Tours" - Outside, the legations, zoo, Bureau of Engraving, then in Capitol, Library of Congress, + Mellon Art Gallery. Lee-Custis mansion + Arlington cemetery. Lunch at the Blackstone. Our driver brought us home. Letter that Hilda is to marry Paul. Telegram from Mrs. Wadsworth, Hans arr. Shanghai Mar 17 (22 days on ocean)
