MARCH 22 1942. Sore throat waked me early. Then slept till 8. 79 at S.S. Sig came out. Elynor + Lucille Hahn here with 4H posters. Took girls back about 6. 1943. Fine washday - hung out sheets 2 white blankets. They froze - Hung pink blankets + rest in basement. K took Hans to 7:00 bus to Maquoketa. I baked bread, did most of ironing. 1944. Left Canton at 5:30 Ohio time. Drove 340 mi, a total of 940 to Wash. by 5 P.M. EWT. Pittsburg had our only icy streets. On Pa. Turnpike 101 mi, then mts. Had a near flat. Over night at Cotton's, 3929 Morrison St. NW 41° 45° 1945. Sewed on Hilda's blouse and on Danish blouse, finishing second and making buttonholes. First letter from Frank - in France. 1946. After an early lunch, Elsie + I headed for Walter Reed hospital where she visited with Brig. Gen. Helmick's daughter Judy. I saw amputees practice on new artificial legs. Bought percale sheet + 4 bath towels for Hilda.
