MARCH 27 1942 Made Hilda yellow bordered apron for her birthday. Got hen at Meicher's + dressed it. Had headache. 1943. Busy day - cleaning up house, baking bread + applesauce cookies. Made pillow to match drapes. Hans + Jay W came just after we ate supper. 1944 Went downtown bought ticket and Pullman reservation for Signe for her leave. Lunch with Hilda. Met Miss Dylvad, Jensen, G. Baker, Dr. Gaus. Wrote several letters + cards. 1945 K. went in and got part time job at Hecht's. I did the ironing. Wrote Easter cards. Solicited negro janitor and Bladen's for Red Cross and checked on a few more last places. Mrs. Rusana brought $16.50. 79° 1946 Awoke at 7 to sunshine. Elsie + I packed picnic basket. Herbert + Kennie came at 9 and we drove to Mt. Vernon. Perfect day. Boys + I took pictures- Herbert 2 color ones of us. We picnicked on way back, on banks of Potomac. Toasted marshmallows. Elsie + I went thru Gadsby's Tavern, Christ Church. Cable from Frank - he goes to replacement depot Apr. 6. I sent him cable.
