MARCH 28 1942. Sunny! Rosa painted my last 2 bedroom walls. I baked cake, did odd jobs. Attended Mrs. Mentz' funeral - and stood! Kathryn came out on bus. 1943. Baked cherry pie, made celery lime jello before church. Sat up front - Joy, Hank, Frank, Z + I. 50 at S.S. Wayne + Doris here in P.M. Lent them $1000. Bill + Deone Rabe here in eve. Jay told of World War I. Served cocoa + cookies. 1944. Mrs. Cotton + I did a washing we hung in back yard. Went with her to Int. Relations Group of Chevy Chase Woman's Club to hear Dr. Ragatz of G.W.U. on "Towards a Lasting Peace." Ironed for Cotton's + us. 53° 84 1945 Went in for last report luncheon for War Fund drive. We gabe play - I held book - they gave us free lunch and corsages! Mailed Adams' "Nods + Becks" also tea, pickle, pajamas, to Sig. 72° 1946 Awake from 2:30 for nearly 3 hrs. with sudden bad indigestion. Elsie + I did big washing for us both. We shopped at Mt. Vernon Ave. Safeway. She went to Smithsonian as I did not feel able to. Mrs. Tripp reports they can't get an apt. so can't buy my furniture. Finished Signe's rug.
