1942. Wonderful day. Hans helped Frank put out 5 new swarms of bees. I washed, baked sponge rhubarb. Took nap. Did some cleaning. Chatt's had their war garden here plowed. Hans + I in to see girls in eve. Jay Whitson came. 1943. Hans drove '41 car to Dixon, Ill. to work with Wilbur Scott. I baked bread. Got 7 + wrote it + comments. To Middleton for KO beehives, vulcanized tire, etc. To Zentner's with + H clothing books. Signe came out for 3 days. She had her physical exam. at Truax field today. 1944 Bellbuoy in fog woke us too early. Sig had day off, came at 10:30. We drove to 11:30 comm. ave. where she got 50 lb. G1 uni-forms. Couldn't park near USDA as came home for lunch - she went back for date with John. I napped, read, studied dansk. 42º 62º 1945 By taking aspirin to ward off toothache was able to help emergency blood donor unit in Grace church. Basement cold. Sewed 48. Felt able to go in for Current Books. Instructor talked herself into practically admitting "The Robe" not a "non-book." Home on 7:30 bus for once. 1946 Rita went in to Dubuque with us + we got green goods for Kathryn. To Olga's at lunch time. We went to Maquoketa in P.M. Got 12 yd. rayon at Penney - also film there + at Lost Nation. Saw Melba's boy Donald for first time. Olga took us to cafe for supper. Signe went to Melba's for over night.
