April 25 1942 Took Miss Zillier to Madison at 9, mailed Frank's commencement invitations, bought an innerspring mattress, etc. Shirley planted her 4H garden her[e?] I put in flower seed in tennis court. K came home with me. Nice shower to break dry spell. 19 Easter Slept hard as i was so tired. Oskar + his folks + we went to Velma's for dinner- Olga's Amanda's, + Clara + Jess Poole there. Fine dinner. Oskar took us in to 5:30 bus. Calle don Mrs. Pendray. Bus crowded to Dixon, Ill. We studied Danish a while before sleeping in Nachuea hotel. 1944. As I have bad corn, rode both in + out from Alex. for 1st Red Cross canteen mtg. in charge of Miss Ida Lausden of Roanoke. Hilda here to sew in P.M. I stitched hem + other changes in Sig's old blue sport outfit for Hilda. Signe came for supper, too. 1945. Hilda came in via R.R. from Tallahassee. Got here about 6:30. She is sick- can't eat + is very burned. Brot me shell pin cushion. I took first X ray treatment for hand + checked at dental Hosp. where they took another X ray. Read i n "Joseph the Provider' while waiting. 1946. Baked raisin bread, shampooed my hair, drying it on 3d floor deck. made pineapple Bavarian cream. Ironed, wrote letters at Kirkpatrick's a few minutes. Card from Hans he leaves for Mukden Apr 14. Slept at Wittenberg's.
