May 2 1942. Frank Spaded; I transplanted many pink [crocuses?]. Windy till eve. Baked bread. First creeping phlox out. 1943 41 at S.S. Gave short talk based on Jessie Pfaff's work in Rhodesia. Made veg. jello + sponge cake. Took nap. Family of 6, for a change! 83° 1944. DId ironing. Drove to Alex. Lunch at Red Cross canteen, then helped Mrs. Conlon, Mrs. Smith + Mrs. Hitt on housekeeping comm. He and talk on use of canned foods. Shopped- found goods for 1 thin dress- we spaded + raked in eve. 35° 60° 1945. Mrs. Maj. Eual Culbertson, Mrs. Maj. Edw. Zoller, and Mrs. B. Ashbruton Tripp came for me soon after 9 + with Mrs. Gray, Mrs. Closs Harris and her father + mother Peace, we made tour thru Dumbarton Oaks, then lunched at Georgetown Arms- on Father Peace! Fine time. A cold wind ruined most of our tomato + beans in garden. .1946. Slept till 5. Cut out my white nylon blouse and made it all except fastenings. Sig, Ruth, + Bea drove to HOllandale for the day. Delores Young at Apt. for dinner. I did grocery shopping. Went to WSCS with Mrs. Kirkpatrick. Vernon took us. Mrs. Hoff here talked on supply work- as did I. Ruth moved out to Portage.
