May 4 40° 1942. Thru washing by 9:45, baked cookies, wrote Rural Comments, cut out Frank's "corny" pajamas. He + I went to Madison for his desk. Put in many flower seeds. 1943. Took Hans to 7:50 train in Middleton. Ironed what was left of K's washing; Dale K + I got trailer load of old fertilizer from Schmidts'. Mrs. R A Walker talked on Birds at Woman's Club. Miss Hoffman at 4H in eve. Had biscuit contest, Shirley 1st, Delores 2d. 86° 1944. Still hot- all week. Wrote Dora. Drove to Alex. Drank cup coffee with lunch (unboiled) Bought bookrack and magazine holder. Got library books back from Frank. Finally removed part of my bad corn. Varnished bookrack in eve- mahog stain. 1945 Uncovered plants in garden. We practised our play then gave it at Norton Hall to a Home Service Class. Mrs. Chas. Hass, Mrs. Zoller, Nell Culbertson + Beverly Gray + I had lunch at the Geo Mason. Went to my dermatologist, last check at dental hosp. Sent Sig books. Lesson on Huxley at Book Class. 1946. Cool. 1/3 inch rain, first for a month. Shopped on Univ Ave. No fruit on shelves. Julia Zillier here for lunch- tuna fish salad, fresh asparagus Bernadine Wittenberg picked for me. She left after 4. Paul + Helen Pownall came at 4:30 We looked at their Kodachromes, they at our pictures of Germany, India, China. Betty gone for weekend, so we had plenty room.
