1942. Chilly wind. Canned 10 pt. asparagus Mrs. Goth brought. Ruffled curtains. Moved acroclinium from cold frame. 1943. Slept till 8:15 after getting Frank of 5 - 5:30. Planted cosmos, muskmelons, a few plants, etc. Hemmed 2 linen towels. Baked nut fruit honey cake. Made last grape jelly - took plants + bouquet of tulips, narcissus, violets, + phlox subulata to church at 8, + helped Wm. rabe hang clean basement curtains. 92º 1944. Fine washday. Through at 10:15. Got both circle letters! + from Elsie - Commencement invitation from Charles. 85º 1945. Back pretty bad at night. Got my first permanent - just in front - at the neighborhood Venus Beauty Shop. Wrote several letters. Hilda went in to G. W. hospital to have tonsils out in the morning. 1946. Awake at 4:30 - up at 5, pressed nylon dress, swept out car, washed several washersful for Hilda + Frank. Frank took State Civil Service exam. for Gen inspector, had lunch here then went back to Weidemann's. I got more travelers' cheques at bank. Helped Hilda with sewing. Packed. Tired.
