May 27 1942 Chilly. Baked bread + blackberry pie. Finished kitchen curtains + hung them. Hilda sewed on rose linen dress. Kathryn worked in her room. Took nap. 4H mtg in eve at school. 1943. Ironed, baked raisin bread. Still cold- hope it's last furnace fire. Letter from Sig every day. Read more in "The Robe" Worked in garden- hoed. 1944. Shopped early. Sig came with more new white uniforms, in time for lunch- stayed till 0. I finished my thin dres. Hans' knitted blue scarf, he left in Ill., then later was lost in mail, finally came. HOT 56 67° 1945 My hand looks so multicolored I didn't go to church. Wrote several letters- H, K, + I saw "Home in Indiana" in Alex. Got power of Attorney paper drawn up by Robl. Brooke, typed by Pauline. 1946. Hilda + I drove from West Liberty to Mt. Vernon by 10. Spent an hour with Lois Jean at Cornell College. To Ames by 3:30. Dora gaining gradually after week home since 9 days in hosp. Just visited. Owen in Iowa State College.
