May 28 1942. Warmer. Frank mowed lawn. Didn't feel too good. Hilda sewed. She + Kathryn developed films at Mem. Union- then Pauline W. phoned and they brought her out. An hour or so later Rita phoned her that her brother died in Dubuque. 1943. Finished ironing, cleaned quite a bit, washed pantry + rear entry windows + hung clean curtains. At Ph. Br. last day picnic- took jello. 1944. Slept till about 8! Went to church. Made pineapple ice cream. Hans + I sat in "backyard" i Kuling to read a while. Hilda + Geo. R. Here for supper, first on our "new" gateleg table. 1945. Hard to get out of bed again, but limbered up and did some closet cleaning. Letters from Frank + Hans, together at Darmstadt. [Armory?] Began reading "General Ike". Had a lot of cards + letters to write. 1946. Cut + made striped flannel nightie on Dora's machine, from material she got for me since I could find none. Hilda + I called on Edith Whitson, then drove to Riley's for supper. More strawberry shortcake. (I made some at Dora's for lunch) Rex picked berries. Phone call from Betty Rodger
