May 29 1942. Pauline + I baked 5 lb. fruit cake- sent 1.2 lb. to Rita, also plants. Pauline + I went to Middleton for 5 lb. asparagus from Mrs. Goth. She got 100 plants tomatoes from Kate Schmidt. We took her to 12:40 bus. Kathryn printed pictures. We shopped; got Hans, home from Washington, at 4. Got tall cabinet. 1943. Went to my first Univ. of Wis. Commencement, 1300 grads. K + I saw naval review- 1000 sailors, 400 WAVES + SPARS. Talked to Mrs. Middleton at Dom- she wanted me to be a hosp. aide. Baked bread, etc. Spaded till dark. 1944. Wrote weekly letter to MTT, then did big washing, till 11:30. Got out cross stitch linen tablecloth + worked on it my spare time. 67° 81° 1945. Packed away some of my + Sig's things in Hans' Gladstone bag. Sunned my coat + suits, went in to see Dr. Cartwright, then had final Xray treatment for my bond. Sub-rented apartment for summer to Navy Lt. R.B. Pitcher. 1946. Hilda + I took Dora down town + to see Jo, [Iddy?] + young Thomas Brown. House nice. Packed up berries for Wayne + Olive. Left Ames at 12, stopped at Menlo 3 to 4:30. Visited Aunt Addie (talking of flying to England) Emily + Kitty + Roy H. To Council Bluffs by 6:30. Supper at Wayne's. Saw Olive for first time. Garden up on hill.
