May 30 1942 I baked brown raisin bread + white rolls; Hilda baked 2 Lady B. cakes- one decorated, 2-tier. Frank got Signe at noon. Irene + Edgar Wood of Waterloo came before we finished lunch + stayed till after supper. Hot. Hans' folks, Velma, Carmin, Lois Jean + Sondra, + Oskar came- 13 here in house over night. 15 for supper. 1943. 56 at S.S. K + S went. Didn't sleep till nearly 2, so finished "The Robe". New shrubs in - the start of the church landscaping program. Took nap. Z packed her trunk. She + I called [on?] Hazel- her birthday, Mrs. Harker + Miss Morrison here. Wrote Hans, Sig, Velma + Anna S. 1944 Finished ironing, drove in to chapter house and made surgical dressings. From 10:15-2:45. About 10 of us ate lunch in the kitchen. Read in "Danby Folk" as usual in eve. 61 80° 1945. Washed our 6 screens in bathtubfuls of hot soapsuds, then K. put them on. I cleaned out part of my desk. Cut out and made most of blue rayon jacket. No mail today. 1946 Hilda met Betty Rodger, Marie Loving + Rosa McDermott at Milw. train at 8:30. After last 2 went to Ascension Day mass, we stowed in car and traveled in Neb. all day. Lunch in park at Fremont, stop at BoysTown, ice cream at Stuart, Neb. Overnite in hotel at Valentine, Neb.
