1942. Our silver wedding. Hans + I went for Helen, whose train was late. Breakfast for 14 at 8:15. Adele's + Helene's came, Melba + Don. Olga, Amanda, + Clara + Jens Pool. 25 for dinner. Mary Mack made honey-baked ham etc. Helen sang- also Mrs. Roberts. Greta played form New World Symphony. Carl Peterson + Wayne W + Zellers came. Hilda home with Melba. Stanke's, G. Zeiglers called, + Rabe's. Helen to midnite train.
1943. Up at 6 to get breakfast for 4. K had to go to work but Frank didn't. He took off upstairs storm windows + worked with bees. I took Miss Zillier to 7:52 AM train. Scrubbed 30 screens. Took nap. Hunted an hour for Hans' ISC transcript to mail to him.
1944. Expressman brought our 3 lawn chairs- hurrah! 27th anniversary- cards form Zillie + Sig. Picnic supper with Hans and Paul Pownall in Rock Creek park, call at Cotton's, dansk lesson. Tried to find Jo Koch.
1945. K + I did washing. She put padlock on my old trunk. I put up clean k. curtains, took nap (was awake from 4-6 A.M). Sent Frank some airmail stamps. He has been in France, Holland, Belgium, Ger. + Austria. Ann. Card from Zillie. Hilda gave me "shoe mittens" Worked at Airport 8-12:30.
1946. Change to Mt. Time- so we got up at 5! Drove thru Sand Hills of Neb to Chadron, north to Black Hills. Went thru Wind Cave Nat'l Park. Wind Cave 1 1/2 hrs. Buffalo in Custer State Park. 30 deer along way. To Mt. Rushmore. Our highest 7200 ft. at Mt. Harney. Nearly lost- to Sylvan Lake modenr cabin at 10 P.M. Cold. Drizzly day.
