1942. Hot. Baked bread. Hans moved my 25 year old kitchen cabinet upstairs and we put new shite ones in place. Signe came at noon. I helped her plant last peas, beans. transplanted zinnias. More rain. 1943 59 at S.S. Damp, cloudy, chilly. 52º Had furnace fire all PM + eve. Read in "She's Off to Work" + wrote Herman, Constance + Hans. 1944. Warmer. Europe invaded by allied armies. Movie "Meat + Romance" at nutrition class. At Canteen Red Cross mtg. 12:30-3. Heavy rain in eve. Frost 1945. Woke at 4 when young Wendell Skott W. cried. Sunny weather prevails, but unseasonably cold. Drove Wayne to a neighbor's. To Madison on 11:30 bus. Called on Mrs. Stanke in Meth. hospital. To Middleton on 1:50 bus. In Doc Muehlmeier's chair 3:15 for an hr. Out to old home. Trees, etc. have grown. 1946. Continued on Old Oregon Trail after hotel in Buhl, Idaho. Followed Snake River into Oregon + on. Went thru Capitol at Boise - stuffed birds, minerals. We got pictures of irrigation wheel + alfalfa made with "cranes" + 8 wheel less hayracks + grinding it. More sagebrush, fruit flowers. Overnight in room at Pendleton, Ore. Cabins full.
