June 11 1942. Sent letter to Hans- Oxford, Miss [which he got last of June! Hard rain. Finished ironing mended a little, took nap, made short cake. Went to MIddleton; caught in rain at Gray's. Read "Botany Bay". Chilly 1943. Up at 5 as usual + Frank off to work. Then I went with R.V. Hurley + Louise Keenan of Oregon to 4H leaders' training camp at Green Lake, picking up Edith Hooker + Don Thompson near Lodi. Camp life + program full. Our group had flag lowering ceremony in eve. Slept like a log. 1944. Wrote Dora, slept an hr. read. In eve we drove to church, = stayed for reception for new members. 1945. [J?] Came from Baraboo on AM. bus- walked to Wittenburg's. Lunch with Carrie W Mrs. Geo. Zeigler had our old birthday club in P.M. for me- lots of fun. I gave 1st prize, a framed cherry blossom picture- to Mrs. Buss. [illegible] to [illegible]-Wash. views. They gave me a lovely dickey. Jay Whitson here in eve. also Ralph Davis. First [illegible] so aired woolens from 2 cedar chests. 1946. We left Frank + Anna's at 8. Level valley for miles along the Willamette. Coast Range to right of us, Cascades to left. Beautiful wild + tame flowers. We all saw Pacific for first time. Saw sunset over it from Valley View cabins, a few mi. into California.
