1942. Kathryn drove in to classes in car + brought Signe out for her month of vacation. I baked bread. Jane + her mother, Elynor, + Mary Lou here for clothing girls meeting in eve. 1943. Hans + I took Kathryn to 7:10 bus and mailed pkg. + got groceries. Rainy day. Typed news + comments. Nap. Moved some portulaca. Picked last pint strawberries. 94º 1944. Wrote Adele, Frank, Made surgical dressings 1:30 - 4. Borrowed uniform from Mrs. Downing for canteen. Had first roasting ears. 1945. Dressed a hen, shelled peas, etc. Sat in morning sun an hour. To Ames on 2:20 bus. Had my glass bow mended. Shopped with Marie + Florence; got blue checked dress at Younkers'. In eve they got me + Frank. The boys swam + played tennis. We went to see Monty Wooley + Gracie Fields in Mollie and Me". Also Song of the Sarong. 1946. Did some cleaning in Millie's "guest house", dyed white pr. rayon hose, pressed my suit, finished Gene's dress except belt + buttons. Picked 3 doz. ears sweet corn for orders. Got 6 letters + cards! Baked apricot crisp -
