Clara Steen Skott diary, 1942-1946

July 7

1942. Washed - nice day. The 3 of us did ironing, too. Took nap, went to Middleton, To Zeutreis in eve, where C.J., M.M., + Jane + me had sock darning lessons.
1943. Did big washing, inc. 36 hdkfs. and 56 hose. Nice day. Baked bread + choc. chip cookies. Hans cut down dead poplar tree, wheel hoed my beans. Nap. Hoed. Hans + I walked to Davis' in eve.
94º 1944. At 10:45 met Red Cross station wagon at Bashford Lane bus stop. Worked with Mrs. Downing + Mrs. Downey from 11 to 5 serving sandwiches, milk, coffee, iced tea. Tired.
1945. Canned 16 pt. Bing cherries, baked bread, choc. chip cookies, and a cherry pie.  Ironed a uniform, etc. for Frank. Widened pair of shorts for Dora. Frank mowed lawn + went on date with Arthur in eve. We all went to Union for supper.
1946. Finished replacing pictures in German scrapbook to leave here at Millie's. After S.S. at 4 square, Millie & I went to Methodist church, heard good sermon + pipe organ music, then back to 4 square for Communion. To park north of Sacramento for picnic dinner, then thru Ft. Sutter & Capitol. Met "Nick", Gene's friend.  Packed. Wrote letters.
