1942. Prepared 4 qt. peas for locker & sent them & gooseberries in when Signe went in to Nurses' Carnival. Hoed marigolds. Worked on my dress -& more gooseberries. 1943 Dressed 3 hens, baked bread & cake. Took 5 lbs of them to locker, then Hans, K, & I went to Verona to look at farm but saw no desirable one. Elaine, Delores, Alice, here to work on dems. in eve. 1944. Did big washing -- almost a Turkish bath! Did ironing also. K started working at nearest Hot Shoppe. Hans & I called on Mrs. C Neergard & Katherine Peterson in Fairlington 1945. Slept at Oskar's then rode with them, Camilla's sister & baby, Alvida Weirup, & Ronnie & Janice on way to Illinois) to Olga's, surprising them. Fried chicken for dinner! Frank helped Lois Jean on tractor, make hay. Windy - Olga had furnace fire. They took us to Velma's after supper, surprising them. None knew Frank even in U.S. 1946 till 1. Awake at 5:45. Breakfast with the Pratts before they left for work. Final packing. Paul & Millie Gene & Lois & Janice came at 8:30. We went to Cliff House, Seal Rocks, & Fleischhacker Zoo in SF. Golden Gate Park. Such hills in a city! Drove on pier with baggage at 2130 but too late to have visitors on ship. Snacks. Sailed at 5:10
