1942. didn't feel so good so did little but meals. Went to Middleton on 1 o'clock bus, but missed it coming back - and walked all way. Dr. [Liedeman?] xrayed my teeth - found no fracture. Jane Z brot her fair entry. 21 1943. Hoed. Went to Madison on 10AM bus; to Co. Agent's office, then ws on Dane Co. Farm program, discussion of Jr. Fair with Mr. Harley + Miss Hoffman. Shopped a bit. Home by 3 on the 2 o'clock bus. Hot walk from TOP HAT. Frank at Hill Farm for Bee Mtg. Both teams practised dems in eve. 86° 1944 Baked cookies. Eye strain + some headache. Washed windows + Venetian blinds. Hans + I planted beans + sw. corn in eve. [in D.C. 59° in a.m - 1st time below 60° since 1890 100° 1945. So hot we just stayed home, reading, writing letters. Al's came for sandwich, ice cream supper. Teddy turned on the heat! Al took us a ride post agronomy farms, Ogden's where Rex is ditching, etc. 83° 1946. Air not so stuffy as yesterday. We passed land at 2 AM, I learned afterward. Finished reading "So Little Time". Took a no. of pictures . A Los Angeles man told me his troubles with [illegible] [Perfex?]. "Farewell parties" begin - on excuse for more cocktails. 748 mi from Shanghai.
