July 30 1942. Cloudy- Canned 4 pt. NZ spinach. Cut out top of 2 piece white suit. + sewed some. Schuenn's got more beans. Hoed in flower garden in eve- and it got warm! Wrote Pauline in Finley hosp., JZ, Mrs Paulson. 1943 Met Mary MacKenzie on 9:20 bus. We canned 18 pt. string beans. Had big visit. She went back on 4:40 bus. I was up from 5 to 10:45. Jay here a few. Took magazines + roses + nasturtiums to Ella Schmidt, home from hospital. 1944. Baked 2 apple pies. K + I drove to church- but couldn't get gas. At 4 Signe, Sgt. Cooper, Hilda + we drove to Great Falls on the Potomac. Saw first [corn?] and corn fields for months- even alfalfa field. Picnic supper there- forgot the hamburgers! Played Lexington rummy here. 1945. Rainy AM. I cut out dresses for Helen + Dorothy Bolin, made most of Helen's (like my plaid seersucker) Began typing Hans' dansk Brev. 1946. Gay L + I had jeep ride. Ate nothing till noon, which evidently helped me recover from my first dysenteric attack. Rogers of Travel Service tells us maybe we will fly to Tsin Tsin Aug. 2 or 2. Lunch with Mrs. Weaver. Saw Riley sisters. Park Hotel on 2 o clock bus. Very hot. Just rested, studied, wrote Hans
