August 2 1942 Hans and I took 9:45 Greyhound bus near Henry Zeigler's to Madison, then 10:20 bus to Wayne Weidemann's. Carl Petersen there. Nice dinner + visit. Came home on 4:30 bus- Greyhound bus to Chanticleer. Supper on back lawn, just Hans + I. 1943. Didn't sleep after 3:15. K left at 7, Frank at 1. I baked bread, washed my drapes and front room curtains, and all 6 windows. Put latter in my room, and new filet in front room. Shower. Called on Bell's. Did some picnic planning + lettering. 76° 1944. Rain all day. 6 1/4" went at 9:30 to have Dr. Cox check my new glasses. Got wet. Locked myself out after I got home-barefoot! Got drenched pushing up bathroom window to crawl in. Took nap. Baked bread. Read. 68° 19[45] was hottest for day! Rain over breakfast time, then some wind. Rex took us to Riley's to spend day. I made buttonholes + hemmed Dorothy's dress, crocheted on one side of linen scarf- heirloom from Aunt Emma. 1946. Getting in habit of sleeping late- up after 8. Had toast + tea + jam at Embankment Bldg., as well as lunch there with Riley sisters. Vialer insisted I see Personnel Dept. Took typhoid shot. Talked again with H.J. Pu on bus- he wants to perfect his English. Arm feverish.
