August 3
1942. Felt good- did big washing. Jane + Hazel here in eve.
1943 Slept 8 hours- oh luxury! Worked in garden an hour. Much cooler. Cleaned up most of house, destroyed big web worms on Chinese elm, painted croquet wickets, sawed limb off Am. elm so 4H'ers could play volley ball. 16 came to picnic. I made tomato jello.
1944 A day at home. Baked cookies Read. Cross stitched. Wrote 3 or 4 letters. '15 circle letter and to 3 4H'ers.
1945. Awake 3-6. Baked bread + cookies. Dora + I both were nearly sick. I slept an hour, typed song, finished neck-facing + lace- on Dorothy's dress. Went with Rex and Dora to Grandmother K.W. Brown's 85th birthday party at Harry Brown's. Dora too tired to go to 16th annual 4H party on Riley's lawn.
1946. Slept till 7. Turned in another passport photo; Mr. Rogers seemed hopeful of getting govt. O.K. for us to go Tues! Had Chinese class alone- learned vowels r z + yuu Hotter than ever. Simply loafed all P.M + eve- nothing to do, no place to go.
