August 4 1942. Didn't sleep after 3- upper lip swollen, head ached- infection. Hans left for Maquoketa at 6 then I slept till 8:30. Did big ironing- 26 hdkfs, 6 shirts, 4 pants, etc. Took nap then canned 7 pt. corn instead of going to Dr.! Hard swelling doing down, relieving infection. 1943 Washed, but all did not get dry. Janet, Joyce, Dolores, + La Von here in P.M. to make crepe paper strips and color placards for booth. Dolores made peanut quick bread. Ironed an hr. Made 2 posters for booth. 1944. Dressed in Red Cross uniform and waited 1/2 hr. at bus stop to go with blood donor group to airport- but they went earlier and could not let me know. So hot I didn't care. Hemmed my blue net dress. Letter from H.A. Wallace. 1945. Sent box choc. chip cookies to Frank at Camp Gruber, Okla, dresses to Helen + Dorothy B. Typed some. More rain- a heavy downpour in Am. At Amy Goss' 3-6, also Harriet K. Campbell, Grace Dewey FItch, Jennie H. Iverson, FLo, + I - Lovely lunch- To Allan's for Rex's birthday cake + ice cream. Harry Brown's there. HOT 1946. Up at 9:30. Breakfasted on cold apricots and crackers in our room. Lunch with Mrs. Lund and BIll McKenna on 2" floor. Walked to Meth. church, but at wrong time. While in hotel lobby, was told about cable from Hans. Phoned Mr. Dueret. Hans is ordered to take month off- rheumatic heart- then reassignment to better climate. Called on Mrs. Weaver.
