August 6 1942. Rainy. cleaned my room + lower part of old (organ) highboy. Canned 7 pt. corn. Began reading "Tamarask" by Edith Roberts. 1943. Left before 10 with materiel for Food booth "Use whole grain cereals for better nutrition". Mrs. Bischoff took it, me, Janet, Shirley, Joyce, Alice, Dolores, + Elaine to [Stopton?] " got 2" on wh. wh. muffins, " 4th + 5" on corn bread. Home by 5. Tired, watered garden. 1944. Made quick appel kuchen, custards, jello. Kathryn + I drove to church, mailed letters. HOT. Read, some in dansk. 1945. Nice day. Cut out rose araloc skirt + suspenders for Helen B. and flannel pajamas for Sig. Made tops of p-j's. Canned 4 pt. apricots. To Whitson's for supper- roasting ears + chicken (from Warren Co). Decide to go to Menlo with Jay. 1946. Even hotter! Sick, so got vial of "Carbant-reu" at UNRRA clinic. Just drank tea in my room today + a bit of toast. Saw Mr. Duerst again. Mrs. Lund + I went to Grand Theater at 2:30 just to keep cool 3 hrs + incidentally see "Cover Gin". Played solitaire as a last resort.
