1942 Ironed 5 pr. pants for Frank, finished packing. K + I left at 10:30. Drove too far north, but after spending an hour in Finley hospital - Dubuque with Pauline, and calling on Rev. + Mrs. Kenderdine in Montour + Henry + Lillian Dobbin in State Center, got to Dora's at 9:30 PM. 1943 After waffle breakfast, Oskar + I gathered corn, tomatoes, potatoes, cabbage, + lima beans for them; gave Canned tomatoes + "succoto" 11 qt. Had to push Oskar's Pontiac past mailbox when they left at 9. Cool. 1944. Turned cooler at last. Waxed hall floor. Washed 2 lines full of clothes. 1945. Finished packing car - empty fruit jars, girls' things, etc. Left at 10, saw Jo Diehl Koch + others, + Hans saw Civil Service Comm. at 11. About 1 by time we got to Maryland. Fine to be on road for long trip, for 1st time in 17 mo. I drove 90 mi on Pa. Turnpike - 333 mi to Helen's, 1823 Va [Ct.?], Moundville. TIRED. 1946 Sunny. After breakfast met Raymond Moyer of Agr. Commission, who had seen Hans in Mukeden Thursday. Walked to Union Church with Mr. + Mrs. Axel Christensen of Copenhagen. Rode home in auto! Tableful of women hung on my every word about frozen foods! Upon roof with book Mr.s Schrag lent me. After supper again for sunset. Goodby to Mr [Hummel?]
