coed! 1942. Leslie's New Hampshire roasters kept me awake from daylight. to S.S with [illegible?], [Hozle?] + Chas. Verna [Oxley?] there from Calif, Dinner at Leslie's. He took Bertha + me to field to feed 165 tiny pigs' mothers - Verna + Ethel + Mrs [Anna?] Oxley came out. Geo. Verna [illegible] I to his new farm after supper at George's. Nice visit. 1943. Fine rain in AM. I got meals at 8 different times from K's 6:45 break fast to Frank's midnight lunch. Canned 8 1/2 qt tomatoes, peaches, + mixed veg. Hans in Madison till 7. 1944. Expected to meet Frank in Chicago, but our train was 20 " late, so missed him. Called on Herman, busy in his office with long-distance calls - Left at 1:30 on Hiawatha, 80 mi. to Milw. in 80 min. Wayne Weidemann met us at Marshall. Stayed there over night . Wes + Tony fine. 1945. Hans typing on his German note book. We drove to Madison in P.M. Then missed seeing ration board at 4 about a tire. Got 50 red ration points for Hans. Back to Baraboo at 6 - Killed PM trying to get pictures printed- 1946. Morning paper said when trainful about to leave here, telegram came of rails + telegraph service disrupted! Also of fight at Peitaho Aug. 15. Read in "The Transforming Friendship" b Leslie Weatherhead Mrs. Wang lent me. She + I walked to Y.W.C.A. sale at 5. I bought 2 cloisonne bracelets, a red carved string of beads + a pink hdkf.
