1942. Took Mary + Logan to 80th W.L Fair at 10. Visited with many old friends. Lunch with Mary's Chas. got a 1st + 2 2nds on hogs - Mrs. Banes 1st on hobby - buttons [Watebed?] races + acrobats with Mary + Margaret. Drove to Apworth by 7:30. 1943. Washed -inc. Frank's spread + double blanket - he sleeps in south room on inner spring mattress now. Canned 8 1/2 qt. WHA tomato soup. Hot. Rain in eve - I got wet getting milk. Finished reading "Escape" 1944. Hans went to Madison. I called on Hazel + Jane, Mrs. Geo. Schwenn, had lunch wiht Bell's (her birthday) then went to our church with Ivan who got our old radio. Called on Mrs. du Frenne, rode to Madison with Mr.s Wittenburg + Bernadine + Mrs. Bauman: we called on Mrs. Kruse in Meth. hospital. We 3 went on bus from Chanticleer to Baraboo to Adele's - talk about folks. 1945. Left Adele's after lunch, drove to Madison, got our film prints. Supper at Zentner's. Jane smoking like a trooper! Hans worked on his scrapbook. Visited at Wittenburg's + slept there. Kathryn came out, having hitch-hiked up from Chicago. 88.8° 1946. A lovely day. Walked with Mrs. Wang, Miss Bott + Mr. + Mrs Carlson just up from Shanghai (first we went on bus to gate of Forbidden City) thru part of Imperial Palace, very old cedars. Walked home, peering in shops. Nap after [tiffin?]. While on lawn reading at 5, Hans came! First time to see him since Feb. 18.
