September 4 1942. Canned 5 1/2 qt. peaches + 13 1/2 qt. tomato juice. Sunned woolens from my closet- cleaned closet out- start of fall housecleaning. Record book meeting at Jane's only 4 girls there. Signe in Red Cross Reserves ceremony of induction at Central High. 1943. Hans + Frank + I went to Madison. Got Swiss watch for K for her birthday. K. came home with us. Made brown bread, apple pie, and chili sauce. To Middleton in eve with Hans. 90° 1944. Kathryn had Labor Day holiday. We did the washing, went to garden for limas + tomatoes; in P.M. we saw "Dragon Seed' at the Palace. Rode home with Hans, who had got a melon + bu. of apples. 1945. We had a flat, from a nail! Drove to Maq. to get it mended, then to Sider's for chicken dinner, also Melba _ children, Velma + children. Sent 6 walnut boards from our old farm to Lost Nation. Mr + Mrs. VOn Essen + Rosa came to see Hans. Henry Guenwaldt also. Took K to Delwar to 6 PM train DInner at Boyers'. Dr. Swift + Mrs. Pendray came. 79° 1946. Had first "dansk Samtale" with Mrs. Axel Christensen for 2+ hours. She told of their trip here from Copenhagen in April 1940.
