September 7 1942. Rainy day. Spent the forenoon cleaning up the woodwork, windows, + floor in Signe's room. Miss Zillier came before 2. Proof-read Woman's CLub yearbook + took it to [Daliels?]. Canned 6 qt. peaches, made cookies. Mrs. Harker here in eve. 1943. Made up 3 jars 9 day pickles, did some cleaning. 1st Woman's Club meeting for year. Winifred Davis talked + also Mrs. Catt. Former brot me home + took Frank in to Madison. Chas. Cannell came out with Hans for late supper. 77° 1944. Hans begins work for FEA. Cooler. Canned 4 pt. peaches. Baked Dutch apple cake. Packed picnic supper for K, Hans + I. He had car key so we went in on bus. Ate by Reflecting Pool. Our first dansk lesson since June 28. 1945. Airmail from Sig- across the atlantic. Slept at Cabins near Dutch Mill. Drove back to 118 W. Johnson to return HIlda's forgotten suitcase. I had flat tire north of Chicago. Hunted up Kathryn at 930 N. La Salle St. Supper together. Left dirty city + slept in cabin by a cornfield in Indiana. 1943 Lay around nearly all day- too much buttermilk! Hans out to a "Summer Camp School" + got some corn pictures. In eve, C. Deyae brought my handbag I had left in the jeep, and visited an hour or so.
