September 8 10th 1942 First clear day this week so washed inc. 2 rugs + a blanket. Had Dr. M treat my tooth at 1, got K's + F's things at express office, grapes at Schwenn's. Canned whole tomatoes. 1943. Was sleepy all day. Left with Hans 8:30. Took Mrs Henkel custards + flowers. To De Forest, dinner at Columbus; thru big Co-op Milk processing plant at Juneau; Husticford, overnight + supper at Calumet Hotel, Fond du Lac. 1944. Canned 19 pt. peaches, but had to hunt around in Alex. to get sugar. Wrote Sig. 1945. We drove across Indiana and Ohio taking turns sleeping + driving. Mountainous S.E. Ohio on 50; slept in Marietta, Ohio. Hot, but rain in night. 74° 1946. Missed all meals till tea, then tea only, but "boy" brought me rice soup once. Miss Bott + Mrs. Wang called. The latter brought me verbenas, + book of Galsworthy tales. Read "An Apple Tree". Much better. In eve a lively UNRRA/CNRRA discussion in lobby- with Mrs. Wang present!
