September 10 8th 1942. As schools open- we have no one in public school for 1st time in 17 years. Cleaned up house, etc. Wrote Comments Got yearbooks from Mr. Daniels. Presided at Woman's club for first time- Dist Atty Maloney talked- We discussed our club for wartime- decided to co-op in village recreation with other org. 1943. Shower at Appleton Hotel. rove to Fond du Lac, Sewed lace Mrs. Whalen gave me 2 yrs ago on pillowcase while Hans interviewed 2 milk tank owners. Dinner at Calumet hotel. Sherbet at Watertown. I drove to Weidemann's home from Deerfield. House cold. Frank sick abed. 79° 1944. We all went to church- Nice day. K + Rex went to see "Wilson" then here for 7 supper. We read more dansk to catch up on "Niels Ebesøn." 1945. Very hot. No newspaper or radio. I re-established mail communications. Did a big washing- run last ones thru Mrs. Wakefield's machine. Used my last soap- + some of hers! To bank + mtg. of Public Speaker's Bureau of Red Cross at 709 Cameron St. Mrs. Taylor said Dan Hallock had been here. 84° 1946. Hans out to Wilm's with Carol Deyoe before latter went back to Tientsin. Wonderful wash day for my 23-piece wash. Typed 5 copies of 2 page "China Glimpses" + wrote 7 circle. Hans has sudden bad back ache. UNRRA from Dr. Oswald Holzen recommended B1. We read in danske Bog from Christiansen's. 2 women missionaries who walked + forded 3 rivers to get to R.R. came in from Tia Yuan.
