September 14 1942. Sunny, after rain. Got yeast from Cornwell's then baked bread. Put red edged paper on cabinet and pantry shelves. To dentist in P.M. 1943. A little warmer in P.M. No furnace fire. Baked bread, canned 2 qt. tomatoes. Library board mtg. in P.M.- last for Mrs. Nichols. Who to get for chairman? Hans went to Eau Claire, etc. I called on Fruss' + made 10 calls, only sold 8 bonds. 1944. A little warmer, but cloudy; hurricane causing $50,000 000 damage went along coast. No ambition did i have- made apple jelly, re-covered ironing board. K + I drove in, ate with Hans in "All States Cafeteria", then she took Chinese exam + we a danish lesson. 1945. Many details to take care of before Hans goes to Europe. I typed dansk letter + Middleton column while Hans went in to get glasses to replace those he lost on Pa. Turnpike. Airmailed letter to Hilda + to Univ. re her room in Tripp Hall. We drove to airport between heavy showers. 1946. Did 21 piece washing-grand sunshine. Talked with the 3 Danish women arrived from Manchuria after 2 weeks in a junk= more hard travel tales. Got some pics. on Morrison St. In PM. we + Coulsons drove to Marco Polo bridge took a lot of pictures. 7 of us to Pekin duck dinner in eve in old part of town. Went by train- home by rick sha. wonderful weather.
