September 21 Frank missed his first University day 1942. Not a large washing, so did sunroom curtains. Windy- Dr. M. pronounces my tooth definitely [in?] firmer. Wrote Garden + Apple Comments. 1943. Ironed, pressed Hans' best suit, baked bread, took a loaf to Mrs. Henkel. Shopped in Middleton, got extra bonds for the Third War Loan. Wrote Sig. Honey extracting in progress in basement. 1944. Ironed nearly all forenoon, got veg. from garden. Heavy rain at 4:30, but cleared. Went in on 5 o'clock bus, met Hans in Ag. library. We ate in Rock Creek park. 2 hr. Danish lesson. We called on Likert's. 1945. Finished ironing. Washed bedroom windows and Venetian blinds and put up clean curtains- really needed. Worked on scrapbook in eve- at Norbert's. Wonderful full moon. Very comfortable in dimity dress. Shopped at A + P. 82.8° 1946. More ironing. In afternoon we rode in UNRRA auto, with Mr. Scotch ex-missionary of Canada, north of Peiping on dusty road. Took several pictures; some CHinese "thrilled to have their picture go to America". We had our tea + sandwiches along. Stopped at Lama Temple on way back. Got a rear view of a funeral procession. Hans is typing Frk. Börg-Madsen's dansk HIstorie.
