September 26 1942. Made 4 qt sandwich spread + canned 3 qt grapes for juice. Baked bread + upside down greening cake. Hans + Hilda phoned from Washington. Got '15 letter. 1943. Nice Sunday- wore suit. Hans, Kathryn + I walked to church. 8 in S.S. class. Rally Day program nice. We ate at Norm's Cafe, got ride to Madison, walked 7 blocks, bus to Weidemann's. Wilbur Scott's failed to come. Our bus late coming home. Home 12:30. 52° 74° 1944. Fine washday, sunny. Sewed 2 hrs. "Sarge" + Gates were in P.M. He had heard from Sig, the 20th (sent) but she had no mail yet. We wrote dansk in eve. First furnace fire. 1945. Did big washing. bedspread, curtains, rug, + many napkins + linen tablecloth. Only sunny a part of time. Wore pinafore all day. Gladys Baker + Chet Ellickson here a while in eve. Hans finished his 5th scrapbook. 81.7° 1946. Rain at 5 AM. + cloudy still at 9:30 when I left for the hospital after bidding goodby to some of the 14 Danes who left by plane for Shanghai- then Denmark. cleared later. I made trips by trolley. Lunch at the Dr.'s again. Read some dansk to Hans - wrote Signe. Dr. said Hans' heart action improving by "leaps + bounds". Mailed letter with Carol Deyol.
