September 29 1942. Up at 5. Left for Oregon before 8, but didn't get there in time to go to Watertown to dist Woman's Club board mtg. with Mrs. Ames and Mrs. Paulson. 40 miles for nothing. Took nap. Baked honey chocolate cake. 1943. Tuned warm after early fog. Did big washing + some ironing. Marvin Z cut Chatt's sweet corn + they harvested their crops. Mrs O'Kane + Kate Schmidt called- the latter a farewell. To Buss' + Henkel's in eve. Wrote Sig + Pauline. 1944. Damp- some precipitated. Waited about an hour for Red Cross Car. Worked 11-5 with R. Eggers + Mrs. Pryor in new ATC bldg. at airport. Gave milk to a man who hadn't seen any for 3 mo! Only served 295 drinks- coffee or milk, + doughnuts. Had 40 " out to read. 1945 Didn't sleep till 2- up at 5 + rode to airport with Red Cross Motor Corps, worked in new ATC Canteen 6-11, with Mrs. Conlon, + Mrs. [blank] of Arlington. Served 651! inc. thermos jugs sent out. Busy. Many CBI's back for redeployment. Rode home with Mr. + Mrs. Conlon. Baked bread + apple crisp, slept 2 hrs. Froze in Wis. More "Neils Ebbesøn" 1946. Nice morning, so walked to hospital. Hans was drowsy so I wrote letter to Kathryn to go with Carrol Deyoe to Tientsin. He + Jim Hunter called on Hans, as did Mr + Mrs. Coulson- I came home for lunch. Buses very crowded. Read aloud from "Indiscreet Letters from Peiping" (1900) in P.M. to Hans.
