October 6 1942. Sunny. Did washing + a quilt. Presided at annual Rural Guest Day at Woman's Club. Prof + Mrs. Robt West showed lovely pictures of Hawaii. Helped judge 4H record books in eve in Hurley's office. home 10:20- not bad. 1943 Perfect washday. Washed 2 rugs + 2 blankets, too. Mr. Fuss putting 2" coat of paint on house. Frank still in bed. I canned 2 qt. apples + 3 pt. carrots. Haven't heard from Signe for 3 days! Unusual. Read in "Washington, U.S.A." by Faith Baldwin. 61° 77° 1944. Slept little after 2:30. Worked with Mrs. Hyatt's group at blood donor unit at Canteen. Rode there + back in mobile Canteen. We went into American 21 passenger flagship, slept an hr. Typed several danish articles. Hilda here in eve, 1945. Didn't sleep after 1. Worked with Mrs. Rinker and Mrs. Cady, the former driving to + from airport. We were very busy- many thermos to fill, inc. some for president Truman. Served 537. Rainy. Finished machine work on K's pajamas- Letters from all the kids this week. Slept 2 hrs in P.M. till Mrs. Norberg came. 1946 Read in Collier's of Sept 21! Mr. Christensen + Mr. Mielsen (UNRRA) from Copenhagen 4 mo. over, brought us 4 Danish books to read. Miss [Winnelund?] came + talked dansk. Mr. Scratch visited. I wrote Sig Took short walk. Hans not too good.
